The transformation of global semiconductor production chain has brought great opportunities to Vietnam’s semiconductor industry. Under this trend, NATRA will jointly hold a seminar on semiconductor technology in Vietnam with the theme of “Challenges and Opportunities for Labor Force Development” with NCG and VANLANG University on January 23rd, 2024. The event brought together many authoritative speakers in the field of semiconductor chips.
With only about 5,000 engineers, the vigorous development of semiconductor technology and attracting investment from large enterprises in the world are both opportunities and great challenges for Vietnam. The focus of the seminar is to evaluate the challenges and opportunities faced by the development of the labor force and discuss new methods and strategies to solve the current and long-term challenges of the semiconductor technology industry in Vietnam.
This event brought together renowned speakers in the field of semiconductor chips: Professor Aaron Thean – Vice President of the National University of Singapore, Director of the SHINE Center of the National Research Foundation, and Director of the AStar SIMTech-NUS Joint Laboratory; Ms. Bich Yen Nguyen – Senior Expert at Soutec (USA), IEEE Member – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; Mr. Nguyen Tu Huan- representative of NCG Consulting Group; Ms. Nguyen Do Dieu Linh- chairman of NATRA; Mr. Phil Nguyen, CEO of NATRA.
At the seminar, experts discussed and shared the development potential and challenges of semiconductor technology markets in areas such as clean energy, interconnectivity, information security, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Mr. Le Van Khoa, the representative of the Ministry of Finance, stated that the government focuses on providing financial support for scientific research, infrastructure development, high-tech parks, storage centers, and educational institutions that receive semiconductor technology training to promote research in the semiconductor field. The legal corridor has also been adjusted more flexibly to respond to and lead global technological development trends.
When discussing the training issue in the Vietnamese semiconductor industry, experts stated that they should not only expand employment opportunities, but also focus on teaching integrated technology and artificial intelligence chip design to the younger generation in Vietnam. Nguyen Tu Huan – a speaker from NCG Consulting, and Mr. Phil Nguyen – CEO of NATRA, helped attendees provide an overview of Vietnam’s semiconductor chip industry, including key aspects such as policies and training; Simultaneously analyze the advantages of the industry.
Sharing the advantages of the industry, the speaker Nguyen Tu Huan stated that Vietnam currently has a stable political system, favorable geographical location, and abundant technical labor, with low costs However, the microchip industry still faces significant challenges, such as infrastructure and equipment shortages; There is no close connection with research institutions, educational institutions, and the government; We need to cultivate experienced teachers to cultivate generations to master solid foundational knowledge. In addition, the speaker also put forward some suggestions aimed at serving the development of the industry, with the goal of training 50000 high-quality employees in the industry by 2030 and developing human resources to meet the growing market demand.
